The Port Jervis Recreation Department’s function is to provide the community with recreational and healthy activities for all age groups. The Director of Recreation advises the Recreation Commission, Common Council, and Mayor on all activities that are taking place and on future recreational programs.
THE MISSION
The Port Jervis Recreation Department’s function is to provide the community with healthy and recreational activities for all age groups. The Department also sponsors numerous special events for the community throughout the year. The Director of Recreation advises the Recreation Commission, Common Council, and Mayor on all activities and special events that are taking place. It is the Director’s job to keep the City of Port Jervis updated with new recreational technology, new equipment and new programming.
The Recreation Department oversees and maintains the city’s parks, West End Beach, and the Youth Community Center. The Department also sponsors numerous special events throughout the year. West End Beach is located on the beautiful Delaware River and is supervised by certified lifeguards during the summer swimming season. The Youth Community Center, opened year round, provides our youth with after-school activities, as well as plenty of summer programming. Summer programming is also held at our Church Street Park. The director works closely with all other city departments, the Port Jervis School District and county agencies in an effort to improve the quality of life for the community. Additional funding is provided by the Office of Children and Family Services and the Orange County Youth Bureau.
YOUTH COMMUNITY CENTER

The Youth Center is a social and recreational center intended primarily for use by children ages 7 to 13 years. The Youth Center supports opportunities for youth to develop their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities and to experience achievement, leadership, enjoyment, friendship, and recognition. The Youth Center staff schedule and organize activities and programming for children. The Youth Center is open year-round. September-June the Youth Center is open after school, 2 pm- 6 pm and in July and August all day between 9 am- 4 pm. Special events are also held throughout the year at the Youth Center.

Certified Lifeguards are on duty when the beach is open during the summer. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are off duty. There is a parking fee on weekends and holidays- check with the Recreation office for more details and rates.

WHAT ARE THE HOURS OF CITY PARKS IN PORT JERVIS?
City Parks are open from 7 am- 9 pm. Church Street Park closes at 8 pm.

WHERE CAN I GO FISHING?
Make sure if you need a New York State License for fishing you have one. You can fish along the Delaware River on any public property. Please be sure to stay off of Private Property.

WHAT IS THE PORT JERVIS YOUTH COMMUNITY CENTER?
It is located at 134 Pike Street and is a safe location for youth, ages 7 and up to go after school and during the summer.
WHERE CAN I PLAY BASKETBALL?
There are several areas in the city to play basketball. Riverside Park on 4th Street; West End Beach off of Ferry Street; Church Street Park on Church Street near Orchard and the Farnum House on Ulster Place
